A lot of bands have recently decided to call it quits in order to “preserve what is special and beautiful about the band” and the music, as The White Stripes said in their statement about the band breaking up.
As much as I hate to hear that some really great bands aren’t going to be making music anymore, I’m glad that they know when to draw the line and stop things from progressing farther than what they wanted. As LCD Soundsystem puts it,
“It’s all just gotten bigger than I planned or wanted. Not that I’m against it but I don’t want to get bigger. What’s the goal now— get fucking huge? I don’t want to be a famous person. It’s fucking great where we are. I get on an airplane and nobody has any idea who I am. I just want to do other stuff.”
The only thing that upsets me more than no more music from a good band, is more music from a good band - except it’s mediocre, because they’ve exhausted themselves of all their creative juices. Y’all know what I’m talking about. Am I right?

Jack and Meg White officially announced the end of The White Stripes.
“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
